According to a report there is possibility of having Kohli as an opener as this was discussed seriously in a meeting held in Mumbai last week where captain Rohit Sharma head coach Rahul Dravid and Chief selector Ajit Agarkar were present.

There has been a lot of doubt about the spot of Kohli in the T20 World Cup Squad for team India which is going to be announced soon but all the doubts have reportedly been put to rest. The place of Kohli in the T20 side was not certain when Rohit, Dravid and the selectors mate after the ODI world cup last year but since then a lot of things have been changed.

Kohli had made himself available for the Afghanistan home series where he and Rohit Sharma return to the T20 for the first time in nearly 2 years he batted at his preferred number 3 slot in the first two matches that he played with yashasvi Jaiswal opening the batting with captain Rohit Sharma. But in the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup things might change.

The report added that Kohli wanted clarity from the selection committee about his place in the T20 world cup and day came up with the opening act.

For the royal challenges Bengaluru in the last few seasons of Indian Premier League, Kohli has been opening regularly. Currently he is the orange cap holder with 300 runs to his name in 7 matches at the strike rate of 147. He has already smashed centuries in the tournament.

It is not like Kohli has not done it in international cricket, in fact he started his international career as a opening batsman in the ODI against Sri Lanka in the year 2008. But gradually he got shifted to the number 3 slot and made it his own. He has a good record as an opener in the T20 internationals as in 9 matches the former captain of Indian cricket team has scored 400 runs at an average of 57 which is higher than his career T20I average of 51.
